MARITIME (V.H.F.)
RADIO CERTIFICATION
Anyone operating a
fixed or portable marine radio in a pleasure craft is required by law
to have a Restricted Operator's
Certificate [Maritime] (R.O.C. - M). Industry Canada has
delegated to the Canadian Power and
Sail Squadrons the sole authority to issue
the certificate. You no longer need an annual station licence (issued
specifically for your radio equipment) if you are operating a
pleasure craft in Canadian waters. You still
need a VHF station licence, however, if you plan to voyage in U.S.
waters. Plans for a reciprocal agreement relieving Canadian
boaters of this requirement were abandoned due to the change in
security attitudes following 9/11. Need a station licence? Click here.
Why not take the 4-evening CPS Maritime (VHF)
Radio Course to
obtain your certification? The course now includes certification
for the digital selective calling
(DSC) component of most new radios.
